- Description - |
Cardene, a type of medication called a calcium channelblocker, is prescribedfor the treatment of chronic stable angina (chest pain usuallycaused by lackof oxygen to the heart resulting from clogged arteries, broughton byexertion) and for high blood pressure. When used to treatangina, Cardene iseffective alone or in combination with beta-blocking medicationssuch asTenormin or Inderal. If it is used to treat high blood pressure,Cardene iseffective alone or in combination with other high blood pressuremedications. Calcium channel blockers ease the workload of theheart byslowing down its muscle contractions and the passage of nerveimpulses through it. This improves blood flow through the heartandthroughout the body, reducing blood pressure. Cardene SR, a long-acting form of the drug, is prescribedonly forhigh blood pressure. Some doctors also prescribe Cardene to prevent migraineheadache and to treat congestiveheart failure. In combination with other drugs, such as Amicar,Cardene is also prescribedto manage neurological problems following certain kinds ofstroke. |
