- Description - |
Enbrel is used to treat the symptoms of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis whenother drugs have proved inadequate. It is the first in a new class of drugs designed toblock the action of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a naturally occurring protein responsiblefor much of the joint inflammation that plagues the victims of rheumatoid arthritis. In clinical trials, Enbrel provided the majority of patients with significant relief. Inaddition, it can be taken along with other drugs commonly used to treat rheumatoidarthritis, including methotrexate (Rheumatrex), steroids such as hydrocortisone andprednisone, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Motrin and Naprosyn, aspirin,and other pain-killers. |
