Zerit is one of the drugs used to fight the human immunodeficiencyvirus (HIV)--the deadly cause of AIDS. It is usually prescribed forpeople who have already been taking the HIV drug Retrovir for an extendedperiod. HIV attacks the immune system, slowly destroying the body's abilityto fight off infection. Zerit helps stave off the attack by disrupting thevirus's ability to reproduce. Signs and symptoms of HIV infection include diarrhea, fever, headache,infections, problems with the nervous system, rash, sore throat, andsignificant weight loss. |
